Top 5 Essential Oils to Repel Bugs

Looking for some natural relief from pesky summer bugs? Here are some amazing essential oils that just might help keep the bugs at bay.

Use oils safely on the skin by diluting effectively. Find our dilution chart here

1. Citronella

Citronella is know for its amazing bug repellent properties including fleas, ticks & mosquitoes. It is used in candles, sprays, roll-ons and more. Use this in combination with one or more other powerful bug-fighters for a more effective repellent.

2. Lemon Eucalyptus

Lemon Eucalyptus can be used to repel insects like mosquitoes for up to 6 hours. The refreshing smell is pleasant to humans but unpleasant to bugs. Combine with citronella for double the bug-off punch.

3. Cedarwood

Cedarwood is the perfect woodsy smell for the outdoors. It's a good oil to use topically (diluted) or diffused to ward off annoying insects looking to crash the party. Protect your skin and enjoy the calming properties of this amazing essential oil.

4. Patchouli

Patchouli has a number of uses, including an insect repellent AND an insecticide. This makes it a great option to include in any insect repellent recipes.

5. Thyme

Thyme essential oil can be a very effective mosquito repellent but has a shorter duration than some of the other oils above. Including it in a recipe to repel bugs can help increase the potency of the spray, but may be worth re-applying every 1-1.5 hours for full coverage.
